Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review: Ingredients and Flavours

Laneige sells its Lip Sleeping Mask in 15 flavours in the US, from the original Berry to Gingerbread and Taro Bubble Tea. Every one of the 12 complete ingredient lists on the brand’s own page includes fragrance, and only some of them name the individual fragrance components.

That is the first question this review answers. It also covers what is in the 34-ingredient Berry list, whether it contains the vitamin C and hyaluronic acid people mention, and what a 20 g jar costs per gram once retailers are compared.

We do not test products on skin. This is a research review built from published ingredient lists, retailer prices, a formulation column and a UK blogger’s write-up. For the face versions of the same idea, see our Korean sleeping mask guide.

Key takeaways

  • Laneige’s US page lists Berry at $24.00 for 20 g, which is 120 cents a gram, and five of its 15 flavours at $25.00. Amazon lists the Berry jar at $24.00 too.
  • All 12 complete flavour lists we read contain Fragrance / Parfum. Berry, Vanilla, Sweet Candy, Gummy Bear and Watermelon Pop name no individual fragrance components, while Grapefruit names four and Lemon Sorbet names ten.
  • The Berry list runs to 34 ingredients. A wax and oil base leads, ascorbic acid sits 27th just before water, and the brand’s “Berry Fruit Complex” is the last three entries.
  • We could not find hyaluronic acid on the Laneige US or Sephora lists, although Allure’s description of the formula names it.
  • COSRX’s Ceramide Lip Butter is the nearest verifiable Korean alternative: 20 g for $19.00, described by the brand as unscented, with no fragrance on its 18-ingredient list.

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask at a glance

  • Size and price: 0.7 oz (20 g), from $24.00 on Laneige’s US store, with five flavours at $25.00.
  • Flavours: 15 on the US page, or 16 options with a bundle, with Berry as the original.
  • Fragrance: on all 12 complete lists we read.
  • Base: waxes, plant butters and a plant-derived ester, with water in 28th place on the Berry list.
  • Directions (brand): apply generously before bed, and a thin layer in the morning to prep lips.

What is in the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask?

Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry (original) lists 34 ingredients on its US page, mostly a wax and oil base. Diisostearyl malate leads, followed by hydrogenated polyisobutene and a plant-derived ester. In a 2024 Cosmetics & Toiletries column on this product, Alison Wery of the University of Toledo wrote that diisostearyl malate is the ingredient in the largest quantity.

Wery describes the ester as a lanolin alternative that helps the film stay on the lips overnight, and she notes that her conclusions are speculation without use levels. Four waxes (microcrystalline, synthetic, candelilla and carnauba) give the jar its structure.

Shea butter sits 7th, murumuru butter 14th and coconut oil 23rd. Fragrance is 16th, ahead of every vitamin and fruit juice on the list, and water does not appear until 28th place.

Mica, titanium dioxide and two colourants (yellow 6 and red 6 lakes) tint the Berry jar.

How did we put this together?

We do not test products on skin. This review reads the ingredient lists Laneige publishes for 12 flavours, cross-checks the Berry list against Sephora’s, and compares prices at Laneige, Amazon and COSRX on 10 October 2026.

Where a claim comes from a magazine, a column or a blogger, it is attributed to them. Brand statements are reported as brand statements, and we do not repeat the brand’s own lab-style figures as ours. Our method is on the How We Review page.

Which flavour has the shortest fragrance list?

On Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask, Berry, Vanilla, Sweet Candy, Gummy Bear and Watermelon Pop have the shortest fragrance disclosure: each lists Fragrance / Parfum and names no individual fragrance components. None is fragrance-free. Peach Iced Tea names linalool, and Matcha and Taro Bubble Tea name linalool and geraniol.

Strawberry Shortcake names benzyl benzoate and limonene, Pumpkin Pie names cinnamal, limonene and eugenol, and Grapefruit names limonene, citral, linalool and benzyl benzoate. Lemon Sorbet names ten citrus ingredients, including lemon peel oil.

A shorter named list is a difference in disclosure, not proof of less scent. Sephora’s page shows the same effect, since the list for the variant it displays ends with vanillin, clove oil and eugenol, which Laneige’s Berry list does not have.

Allure’s entry also marks the mask as not fragrance-free, so anyone avoiding fragrance entirely should look at the unscented option further down.

Flavour by flavour: what each list names

The table groups the 12 complete lists by what they name after Fragrance / Parfum. The Acai Mango Smoothie list was cut off in our capture, although it also shows Fragrance, and we did not capture Blue Lemonade, Pink Lemonade or Gingerbread.

Flavour Fragrance on list Fragrance components named
Berry (original) Yes None
Vanilla, Sweet Candy, Gummy Bear, Watermelon Pop Yes None
Peach Iced Tea Yes Linalool
Matcha Bubble Tea, Taro Bubble Tea Yes Linalool, geraniol
Strawberry Shortcake Yes Benzyl benzoate, limonene
Pumpkin Pie Yes Cinnamal, limonene, eugenol
Grapefruit Yes Limonene, citral, linalool, benzyl benzoate
Lemon Sorbet Yes Ten citrus ingredients, including lemon peel oil

Does it really contain vitamin C and hyaluronic acid?

In Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask, vitamin C is there as ascorbic acid, in 27th place between a red colourant and water. Laneige’s page says it “helps protect from external aggressors”, which is a brand claim, not a measured dose. Under FDA labelling rules, ingredients at 1% or less can be listed in any order, so position 27 shows no amount.

Hyaluronic acid is a separate matter. Allure says the Moisture Wrap technology uses hyaluronic acid and minerals, yet we could not find hyaluronic acid or sodium hyaluronate on the Berry list or on Sephora’s list. The only mineral ingredients we found are mica and titanium dioxide, and a search of the Berry list for “hyaluron” finds nothing.

The brand’s “Berry Fruit Complex” is the last three entries, pomegranate, raspberry and grape juice, listed after water, glycerin, propanediol and BHT.

Is $24 for 20 g worth it?

At $24.00 for 20 g, Laneige’s own store charges 120 cents a gram for the Berry jar. Amazon lists the same jar at the same $24.00 (120 cents), sold by Amazon.com, while five other flavours, such as Gingerbread and Strawberry Shortcake, are $25.00 on Laneige’s store (125 cents).

The Korean alternative we could verify is cheaper per gram: COSRX’s Ceramide Lip Butter is $19.00 at COSRX’s US store, which is 95 cents a gram.

What do reviewers and ratings say?

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ratings are high. Laneige’s US page shows 4.8 from 5,834 reviews and Amazon shows 4.6 from 37,606 ratings, though both are the seller’s own rating systems. Allure named the mask a 2025 Readers’ Choice winner and, in the same entry, listed it as not fragrance-free, with 11 shades where Laneige’s US page now lists 15 flavours.

A UK beauty blogger’s seven-night write-up calls the texture thick and glossy and “a little” sticky, and says a thin layer is enough because too much can feel heavy. She adds that readers who dislike scented lip products may not like it, and that it is a lip mask, not a medical treatment.

Wery’s column points the same way on feel. She says the formula is built to stay on, so people may still feel a little of it in the morning.

Who should skip it, and what is the alternative?

Two groups of readers should skip the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, and one Korean alternative is worth checking.

  • Avoiding fragrance entirely: skip Laneige, since all 12 lists we read include it.
  • Dislike a thick, glossy film: skip Laneige, going by the blogger’s note on texture.
  • Want an unscented Korean option: COSRX’s Balancium Ceramide Lip Butter Sleeping Mask is 20 g for $19.00 on its US store, $5.00 less than Laneige’s Berry jar. COSRX calls it colorless and unscented, and its 18-ingredient list shows no fragrance.
  • What the COSRX jar shares and adds: the plant-derived ester and shea butter, plus ceramide NP and beeswax, rated 4.7 from 456 reviews on COSRX’s own store. COSRX says to apply a thick layer to use it as a sleeping mask.

Laneige’s face-mask version is a separate product, covered in our Laneige Water Sleeping Mask review.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask contain fragrance?

Yes. All 12 complete flavour lists on Laneige’s US page include Fragrance / Parfum, from Berry to Lemon Sorbet. Berry names no individual fragrance components, while Grapefruit names four and Lemon Sorbet names ten, so anyone avoiding fragrance should look at an unscented option instead.

How many flavours does it come in, and what does a jar cost?

Laneige’s US page lists 15 flavours, or 16 options with a bundle, in a 0.7 oz (20 g) jar. Berry is $24.00, which is 120 cents a gram, and five flavours are $25.00. On 10 October 2026 Amazon also listed Berry at $24.00.

How does Laneige say to use it?

Laneige’s directions are to apply generously before bed for overnight moisture, and a thin layer in the morning to prep lips before the rest of the lip routine. A UK blogger’s write-up suggests a thin layer is enough at night too, since too much can feel heavy.

Does the jar expire?

Laneige’s US product page does not state a shelf life that we could find. A cosmetics batch-code guide from Skincarisma says to follow the open-jar (PAO) symbol once a product is opened, for example 12M, so check the jar for that symbol and the date it was first opened.

The bottom line

The Lip Sleeping Mask is a thick wax and oil base with fragrance, shea and murumuru butter, coconut oil and a late vitamin C. The label does not show the hyaluronic acid that Allure’s description mentions.

If scent is fine with you, Berry and four other flavours name no individual fragrance components and cost $24. If it is not, COSRX’s unscented lip butter costs less per gram and lists no fragrance.
