6 Best Korean Lip Balms of 2026, $1.26 to $5.29 a Gram

Six Korean lip balms sold at Ulta and Laneige’s US store cost between $1.26 and $5.29 a gram, and only one of the six lists no fragrance, essential oil or fragrance allergen entry. The gap in cost per gram comes mostly from tube size, which runs from 3.4 g to about 11.9 g.
This ranking compares the six by cost per gram, ingredient count, fragrance, essential oil and allergen entries, which waxes and butters lead the list and whether a page states an SPF. Sticker prices alone hide most of that, because the cheapest tube is not the cheapest balm per gram.
We did not test any of these on lips. If you want an overnight treatment instead, see our Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask review.
Key takeaways
- COSRX’s 5 Peptide B5 Barrier Repair Salve Lip Balm is the best overall at $15.00 for about 11.9 g ($1.26 a gram): 37 ingredients with no fragrance, essential oil, allergen or colorant entry.
- Cost per gram runs from $1.26 (COSRX) to $5.29 (d’Alba, a 3.4 g tube), with Tonymoly’s strawberry balm at $1.47 and Laneige at $1.90 in between.
- Five of six lists carry a fragrance, essential oil or allergen entry: Laneige and both Tonymoly balms list Fragrance, and d’Alba and Some By Mi list citrus and rose oils with limonene and citral.
- Some By Mi is the only one of the six with an SPF, which the page states as SPF 15 with no test details.
- Oxidised limonene and linalool reacted in 9.4% and 11.7% of 821 patients patch tested at one clinic, a selected group that says nothing about how often lip balms cause reactions.

How did we choose these?
Same method as every ranking on this site: published ingredient lists and current US prices from named retailers, checked against independent sources. We did not test any of these on lips. We started from the Korean lip balms in live search results and the shopping listings, then kept only daytime balms with a US page in dollars and a full ingredient list we could read on 12 October 2026.
We left out sleeping masks, which have their own rankings in our Korean sleeping masks guide and the Laneige review, and pure lip tints. We also dropped balms whose US page we could not read in full, such as Etude’s, which Soko Glam sizes in millilitres and so cannot be compared per gram.
Our How We Review page covers this methodology in full, including how sponsored or gifted products get handled when they come up.
What do Korean lip balms cost per gram?
Sticker price and cost per gram do not rank the balms the same way, because the tubes hold 3.4 g to about 11.9 g. Ulta lists sizes in ounces, which we converted at 28.35 g to the ounce, and Laneige prints 10 g. All prices come from Ulta US and Laneige US pages on 12 October 2026.

1COSRX 5 Peptide B5 Barrier Repair Salve Lip Balm: Best Overall Lip Balm
COSRX has the cleanest list of the six. Ulta’s list has 37 ingredients with no fragrance, essential oil, allergen or colorant entry, led by caprylic/capric triglyceride and microcrystalline wax, with shea butter 5th, panthenol 7th, water 10th, hyaluronic acid 19th and squalane 20th.
Ulta’s copy states five peptides and 5% panthenol, which are the brand’s claims, and calls the formula fragrance-free and colorant-free for dry, sensitive lips. The directions are to apply as often as needed through the day, and the copy describes a two-step salve formula that forms a breathable protective layer, which is the brand’s wording.
It has the lowest cost per gram of the six, and Ulta shows 4.7 stars from 14 reviews.
Best for: Anyone who wants no fragrance, essential oil or colorant entry in a daytime lip balm. Price: $15.00 for 0.42 oz at Ulta.
2Laneige Lip Glowy Balm: Best Everyday Tinted Lip Balm
Laneige’s balm is a sheer tint rather than a clear balm. Laneige US sells it in nine shades in a 0.35 oz, or 10 g, stick, and prints a separate list for each shade. The Berry list has 36 ingredients, with shea butter 8th, mica 12th, murumuru butter 13th and Fragrance 16th.
Laneige’s own copy calls it the daytime alternative to its Lip Sleeping Mask, which we cover in our Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask review. It also says Laneige is the number one lip treatment brand in the US for four years running, citing Circana sales data, which is a claim about the brand and not about this balm.
Best for: Anyone who wants a sheer tint in a daytime balm and accepts a Fragrance entry. Price: $19.00 for 10 g at Laneige US.
3Tonymoly Jelly Lip Melt Treatment: Best Reviewed Lip Balm
Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt has the most reviews of the six, 4.6 stars from 371 reviews on Ulta. The list is short at 22 ingredients and starts with diisostearyl malate, polybutene and hydrogenated polyisobutene, with water 20th.
It lists Fragrance and, separately, benzyl benzoate, linalool, limonene and hexyl cinnamal, so four named fragrance allergens sit on the list beside the fragrance entry. No shea, ceramide or panthenol appears, and at 22 entries it is the shortest list of the six.
The directions on the Ulta page are to apply one layer directly from the tube and repeat through the day. The tube holds 0.31 oz, about 8.8 g.
Best for: Anyone who wants the most-reviewed balm at a low cost per gram and accepts fragrance on the list. Price: $13.99 for 0.31 oz at Ulta.

4Some By Mi V10 Hyal Lip Sun Protector SPF15: Best SPF Lip Balm
Some By Mi is the only one of the six that states an SPF. Ulta’s copy says it protects lips with SPF15, and the 45-ingredient list shows ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate 5th and ethylhexyl salicylate, both chemical UV filters, with shea butter 16th and hyaluronic acid forms from 29th.
The list also names orange peel oil, lemon peel oil and rose flower oil, plus limonene and citral, and three colorants for the Rosy shade. Ulta gives no test method for the SPF figure and shows 4.7 stars from only 3 reviews.
The directions are to apply and blend with the applicator. The tube holds 0.23 oz, about 6.5 g, the second smallest of the six.
Best for: Someone who wants a stated SPF in a tinted lip balm and accepts citrus and rose oils on the list. Price: $13.00 for 0.23 oz at Ulta.
5Tonymoly Strawberry Fruit Lip Balm: Best Low Sticker Price Lip Balm
Tonymoly’s strawberry balm has the lowest sticker price, a 27-ingredient list at Ulta, and the balm is the lowest-priced of the six. The list opens with sunflower seed oil and caprylic/capric triglyceride, with shea butter 8th and Fragrance 14th.
Ulta’s copy describes a sheer red tint, and the list shows three colorants and titanium dioxide. The copy also credits strawberry fruit extract with antioxidants, which is a brand claim, and the directions are to apply as needed.
Ulta shows 5 stars from 3 reviews, so there is little review history to lean on, and it is the only one of the six whose list opens with a plant oil rather than a wax, an ester or petrolatum.
Best for: Anyone who wants the lowest price at the till for a tinted balm and does not mind a Fragrance entry. Price: $10.00 for 0.24 oz at Ulta.
6d’Alba Piedmont White Truffle Nourishing Serum Lip Balm: Best Petrolatum-Based Lip Balm
d’Alba is the most expensive per gram, and the only one of the six that opens with petrolatum. Ulta’s 43-ingredient list starts with petrolatum, octyldodecanol, sunflower seed oil and shea butter, with ceramide NP 37th and water 35th.
There is no Fragrance entry, but the list names orange oil, mandarin peel oil, litsea cubeba oil and rose flower oil, plus limonene, citral and linalool. Ulta’s copy calls the scent a fresh citrus one with no artificial additives, which is the brand’s wording. The copy also describes a firm texture that melts on contact into a serum-like coating and names a patented white truffle and tocopherol complex, both brand claims. Ulta shows a single review.
Best for: Someone who wants petrolatum first on the list and will pay for a small tube. Price: $18.00 for 0.12 oz at Ulta.
What can a lip balm label actually show?
It shows what is in the tube, not how it behaves on lips. Under FDA rules ingredients at 1% or less can be listed in any order, so position shows no amount, and a single Fragrance entry does not say what it contains. Sizes are the other thing a page can blur, because Ulta gives ounces only and Soko Glam gave Etude’s balm in millilitres.
Some lists name allergens separately. Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt, d’Alba and Some By Mi list limonene, and the first two also list linalool. A Contact Dermatitis study of 821 patch-tested patients found reactions to oxidised limonene in 9.4% and to oxidised linalool in 11.7%, but those patients were referred to one clinic, so it cannot tell you how often a lip balm causes a reaction.
SPF figures and sizes are brand statements, and a tube’s size is the figure that moves cost per gram most.

Which Korean lip balm is best for dry lips?
No list can promise relief, but the lists do show which balms lean on waxes and butters. COSRX leads with microcrystalline wax and shea butter 5th and states 5% panthenol as the brand’s claim, while its copy says it is made for dry, sensitive lips and its directions are to apply as often as needed. Laneige’s copy names shea and murumuru butter as its key ingredients.
d’Alba puts petrolatum first with shea butter 4th and ceramide NP 37th, and Laneige’s Berry list has shea butter 8th and murumuru butter 13th. Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt has none of these, and its list opens with diisostearyl malate, polybutene and hydrogenated polyisobutene.
If fragrance on the list is a concern, COSRX is the only one of the six without a fragrance, essential oil or allergen entry. That is a statement about the list, not about how any balm performs.
Which Korean lip balm has SPF?
Only Some By Mi among the six states an SPF, SPF15 on Ulta’s page, and the page gives no test method or sample size. Its list shows ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and ethylhexyl salicylate, both chemical UV filters, so the SPF claim rests on filters named on the list. The shade on Ulta is tinted, the list carries three colorants and orange and lemon peel oils, and the directions give no amount, so a stated SPF here comes with color, citrus oils and no dosing guidance.
Laneige’s page says outright that its Lip Glowy Balm does not contain SPF. COSRX, d’Alba and the two Tonymoly balms state none, and Tonymoly’s strawberry balm lists titanium dioxide but makes no SPF claim.
For face sunscreen rather than a lip balm, our Korean sunscreen ranking compares products that state an SPF and list their filters.
How do you pick the right Korean lip balm?
Start with what you want the list to show, because the six differ more on fragrance entries and cost per gram than on anything else. Then match the balm to the job:
- No fragrance or essential oil entry: COSRX, the only one of the six.
- The lowest cost per gram: COSRX at $1.26, then Tonymoly’s strawberry at $1.47.
- The most reviews: Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt, with 371 on Ulta.
- A stated SPF: Some By Mi, at SPF15 by the brand’s claim.
- Petrolatum first on the list: d’Alba, in a 3.4 g tube.
- A sheer tint: Laneige, in nine shades.
Every figure we compare comes from the page itself, and claims such as 5% panthenol or SPF15 are attributed to the brand. Lip care sits at the end of a routine, so our Korean skincare routine guide shows where a balm fits.
Frequently asked questions
Do Korean lip balms contain fragrance?
Often. Laneige, Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt and Tonymoly’s strawberry balm list Fragrance, and d’Alba and Some By Mi list citrus and rose oils with limonene and citral instead. COSRX lists none of these.
Is a lip balm the same as a lip sleeping mask?
Not quite. Laneige’s own copy calls its Lip Glowy Balm the daytime alternative to its Lip Sleeping Mask. Overnight lip treatments sit in our Korean sleeping masks ranking, which this list leaves out.
Why does cost per gram vary so much between Korean lip balms?
Tube size drives it. The six tubes run from about 3.4 g (d’Alba) to about 11.9 g (COSRX), so the smallest tube costs the most per gram and the largest costs the least.
Do Korean lip balms have SPF?
Some do, but most of the six state none. Only Some By Mi’s V10 Hyal Lip Sun Protector states SPF15 on its page, and it gives no test details.
The bottom line
Buy COSRX’s 5 Peptide B5 Barrier Repair Salve Lip Balm if you want the cleanest list: 37 ingredients with no fragrance, essential oil, allergen or colorant entry. Tonymoly’s strawberry balm is the lowest sticker price, Tonymoly’s Jelly Lip Melt the most reviewed, Laneige the sheer tint, Some By Mi the only stated SPF, and d’Alba the petrolatum-first pick.
Prices and lists were read from Ulta US and Laneige US on 12 October 2026 and can change, so check the page before you buy. Ingredient position shows order, not amount, because items at 1% or less can be listed in any order. The patch test study we cite covered a selected clinic group, so treat it as context and not as a rate for lip balms.
Read the list on the store you are buying from, because shades and stores can print different lists. For more in the category see our moisturizers category.
